Food Is Medicine
I’ve been working on staying healthy during the quarantine and keeping my immune system up and running. One of the ways that I do that is to eat immune system boosting foods. I’m also a vegetarian/vegan. Here’s a few foods to work into your diet if you are able:
Mushrooms of any kind but specifically: Shitake, Maitake, Cordyceps, Reishi, Chaga, Lion’s Mane, Turkey Tail, and Oyster
Tea: Elderberry! Someone gave me a great Elderberry Immunitea from Yerba Buena Teas ( https://www.ybtco.com/shop/elderberry-immunitea?category=Wellness%20Tea ) which I have been drinking at least once daily. Its ingredient list includes all organic dried elderberries, echinacea, orange peel and spearmint.
Vitamin C: preferably through eating oranges and other citrus fruits directly.
Curry: The best immune system booster in curry is what gives it its orange color – tumeric.
Other Foods: Onions, Garlic, Cayenne or Red Pepper, Ginger, Lemon, and Honey
I think that spicy food (from red spicy peppers, not green) are great for keeping our digestive systems in balance. That is not probably true across the board, but it is true for me.
I also think that filtered water is important too.
Do whatever you can to get good healthy food into your body, sun on your body or vitamin D, and lots of both exercise in the day, and rest at night!
What foods are on your immune system list?
