IT’S SUMMER! is a group exhibition bringing together the work of 28 artists with new pieces fresh from their studios. Celebrating summer, IT’S SUMMER!, presents work that is richly varied in material and content in an effort to share what each artist is thinking about right now. Rising Tide by Joe Rudko (pictured above) combines two found landscape photographs that the artist methodically cuts and pieces back together to create a wave— bending the horizon line and creating a ‘tide’. Alongside Rising Tide, Iván Carmona’s abstract sculpture, A la Media Noche, references the artist’s native land of Puerto Rico, abstracting the view of the mountains in the middle of the night from the artist’s childhood home. Also on view will be a new multiple panel work in fiber by Storm Tharp— from his studio in Japan—that combines together text, image, portraiture, and abstraction. Diverse in material, scale, and idea, 28 individual perspectives come together in this show.
The exhibition features works by PDX CONTEMPORARY ART’s represented artists: Anna Gray + Ryan Wilson Paulsen, Tina Beebe, Nick Blosser, Iván Carmona, Amjad Faur, Bean Finneran, Jacques Flèchemuller, Ellen George, Victoria Haven, Elizabeth Knight, Justin L’Amie, James Lavadour, Nancy Lorenz, Jeffry Mitchell, Megan Murphy, Jenene Nagy, Georgina Reskala, Joe Rudko, Tad Savinar, Adam Sorensen, Barbara Stafford, Storm Tharp, Molly Vidor, Nell Warren, Heather Watkins; as well as invited artists Natalie Ball, Peter Gronquist, Andy Stout.
