It’s that time of year again and given my renewed energy in working on the site, I thought I’d dream up a holiday gift guide for those of you who are seeking gift ideas for the artist, cultural traveler, photographer, foodie, or even the off-gridder in your life.

Gifts From The artist-at-large Artists
BEYOND HARDWARE is a fun line of art jewelry that uses real hardware pieces mixed with costume jewelry parts, along with found objects and beads. A little industrial, a little steampunk-ish, a little arty. Made by site publisher, Kimberly Kradel.

Artists and Photographers
Moleskine Classic Hard Cover Notebooks have been used by artists for over a century, having been made popular by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Hemmingway. Write in them, sketch in them, record your dreams in them! Moleskine is pronounced “mole-skeen-ay” and no critters were harmed in the making of this product. The paper is acid-free, which is a good thing. This link clicks through to the black, sketch 5 in. x 8 1/4 in. 104 pages [PACK OF 2 ] product, but once there you can peruse all of the Moleskine sketchbooks, journals, and nomadic products that are available. Here’s a link to the amazon Moleskine product page.
Art pens travel well and don’t leave a mess, which is why they travel well. They also pair well with the Molskine sketchbooks.

If you are not sure what the artist in your life could use, surprise them with a DICK BLICK or Utrecht Gift Card! Seriously, nothing makes an artist happier than having free reign in an art store, even if it is online and both Utrecht Gift Cards and BLICK Gift Cards make it easy to give!

Camping and Off-Grid
I live in a pod, so I’m always looking for “off the grid” devices that make my alternative lifestyle easier. They also double as great travel gadgets, especially if you are road tripping or going off into the back country. Why are they great? Because they need no electricity to operate!
Do you have a smoothie-holic in the family? This one is a personal favorite, the GSI Outdoors Vortex Hand Blender is great for road tripping or car camping! I don’t have one of these, yet, but I want!
I’m sorry there is no image for this one, but click through the link and you’ll see this human-powered / hand crank or USB-charged Electric Shaver/Trimmer.

Vegetarian and Vegan Cooking
Cookbooks make wonderful gifts. You’re not only giving something that nourishes the body, but also the imagination! I’m focusing on Vegetarian and Vegan cooking this year. Even if the person you are buying for is a carnivore, or transitioning to a veg lifestyle, vegetarian and vegan dishes also make great sides!
I’ve seen Afro-Vegan: Farm-Fresh African, Caribbean, and Southern Flavors Remixed at Whole Foods and more recently at my local bookshop and am intrigued. It’s a beautiful book, with a lot of color. I love African cooking and often cook vegetarian versions myself, but this book of recipes opens up a whole new world in the kitchen.
Get verbally abused into working on a new, healthier diet with Thug Kitchen: The Official Cookbook: Eat Like You Give a F*ck Their recipes look great. Like, I wanna make some right now!
Deborah Madison really did do for Vegetarian cooking what Julia Child did for French. The New Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone is an updated version of Vegetarain Cooking for Everyone, with updated and 200 new recipes.
