Doors open at 6:30PM, program begins at 7PM.
Kala is excited to host an evening gallery talk and screening with Kala Media Arts Residency awardee Tess Martin on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30PM.
Tess, an animation artist, will present the results of her six-week residency at Kala: a series of monotypes based on designs from her recent short film ORBIT, about our relationship with the sun. The revolving energy that flows through our planet is embodied in circular animated loops originally meant to be viewed on a spinning disc (akin to pre-cinema toys like zoetropes or phenakistoscopes). In these monotypes the loops are broken out of their disc format onto the flat expanse of paper, and then, perhaps, re-animated.
The evening will also include a screening of a selection of Tess’s past short films.
