24th Street BART Station
Wander around the colorful San Francisco neighborhood of The Mission District, EATING TACOS! and taking pictures and/or sketching and writing in our books.
We’ll meet and get acquainted upstairs at the 24th Street BART station in the heart of The Mission and we’ll talk about what our expectations or goals for the day are. Are we eating TACOS? That’ll be a big YES! Are we taking photographs? Are we working in our sketchbooks? And of course we will hit the murals of The Mission while we make our way around the neighborhood. Do we want to check out other food venues like Mission Pie or Humphrey Slocumb? Should we just wander around the shops, streets, and alleys, or shall we stop in at a few places like the Pirate Store, The Scarlet Sage Herb Company, or Paxton Gate? From BART we’ll head to the original Farolito, or maybe San Jose Taqueria, but we’ll definitely hit La Palma Mexicatessan for our first tacos and from there it’s anyone’s guess as to what we’ll see and do.
The subjects of the day will be eating lots of TACOS! and the work we create will be all about color and composition.
At our last taco stop, we’ll spend some time where we can share the images we captured and talk about our impressions from the past few hours.
I have the ending time at 4:00, but that is flexible. We can part ways whenever we feel we need to.
What to bring: Camera and/or sketchbook and art materials, $20 donation (if you didn’t pay in advance), extra cash for shopping (if you are so inclined), and taco money. Dress casual, in layers. Think about using a backpack or an across the chest messenger bag for your belongings so you can be hands free for eating, shooting and sketching, but be careful – you don’t want anything too big and you want to be able to keep tabs on your belongings at all times!
Field Trip Facilitator: Kimberly Kradel
NOTE: This is primarily a Taco Tuesday Field Trip. I love the murals but I am not an expert in the who, where, what, and why. We can make a stop at Precita Eyes and get information about the murals. But for a real educational tour of the murals, you might want to take one of theirs.
Also Note: The Mission is a big neighborhood. By 4pm I guarantee that you will be exhausted!
Minimum: 3 attendees
Disclaimer: Crap does happen. During our Field Trip it’s your job to stay aware and keep your wits about you. I, nor artist-at-large.com, will not be in any way responsible for accidents, babysitting, or theft. If an accident happens, I’ll do my best to get you where you need to be, but you need to be responsible for your own coverage.
