stARTup Art Fair’s second San Francisco edition will commence on Friday, April 29, at 12pm, and will run through Sunday, May 1, at 7pm.

Fair visitors are invited to come and tour the transformed rooms and discover the work of contemporary artists from across the United States and abroad. The boutique Hotel Del Sol rooms will be occupied by exhibiting artists, small collectives and the fair’s participating partners, offering viewers an intimate experience with the artwork and direct access to the artists.

Explore the Rooms

Art enthusiasts are encouraged to explore the hotel grounds and rooms of stARTup Art Fair’s 40+ exhibiting artists and can expect to see a vast range of artists working in varying mediums and styles.

London-based artist, Adjani Okpu-Egbe (Room 313) will be exhibiting pieces from his latest body of work, The Underdogs, which features surreal, expressionist representations of influential people who come from underprivileged backgrounds. Born in Cameroon, Okpu-Egbe draws inspiration from his personal experiences to create his Afro-Expressionist images.

For her stARTup debut, Johanna Evans-Colley (Room 204) will present work that serves as a study on space and perception. The horizon plays a central part in these pieces as it signifies a forever sought after, yet unattainable goal that humanity continually strives to achieve.

Traveling from Beijing to exhibit China Obscura, Elizabeth Briel (Room 219) will show a series of Cyanotype windows that are metaphors for the screens culture creates–decorative and, at times, structural barriers that let selective information into and out of a protected space. When we look at another culture not our own, Briel states, we bring our assumptions and history which prevent us from seeing it clearly.

Counterpoint Studio, LLC (Peter Tonningsen and Lisa Levine) (Room 325) combines numerous photographic images to convey multidimensional impressions of urban and industrial environments. For their room at the fair, expect to see colorful renditions of urban/city life from around the Bay Area.
